Jimmy Awards auditions were held on MAY 31, 2014. 

Overture will again participate in the National High School Musical Theater Awards program.  Outstanding Lead Performer recipients are eligible to audition to be one of two participants, one actor & one actress, sent to New York City for nationals.

The National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA) is a celebration of outstanding student achievement in high school musical theater. The program recognizes individual artistry in vocal, dance and acting performance, and honors teachers and their schools’ commitment to excellence in performing arts education. 

The sixth annual National High School Musical Theater Awards was held on Monday, June 30, 2014, at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway. Activities commenced on Wednesday, June 25, with rehearsals, master classes, private coaching and interviews with theater professionals leading up to the live awards show where the Jimmy™ Award for Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress were presented. The program  concluded on Tuesday, July 1, 2014.

On Saturday, May 30, 2015 auditions will be held for all interested and eligible students.  Tommy Award reviewers will select two students based on the applicant's audition.  Guests and school representatives are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Students are eligible to audition if they:

*     Receive an Outstanding Lead Performer Award this season (2014/15 Tommy Award Recipients will be announced mid-May 2015).

*     Are available to go to New York City in late June or early July.

*     Are able to complete the additional NHSMTA requirements (see below).

*There is no financial obligation for the students who are chosen to travel to nationals.  All travel, accommodation, and food costs will be paid for by NHSMTA and Overture Center.

For the audition students are asked to prepare*:

*    5 minute video of their performance in their high school musical this year

*    One (1) 32-bar cut from a song from their performance this year

*    One (1) contrasting (full) piece from musical theater genre (story songs recommended)

*    One (1) additional (full) piece (for possible call back)

*    Completed Participant Packet for NHSMTA (will be linked in May 2015)

*    1-Page Essay (guidelines available May 2015)

*    5-minute Topic Response

*    Current Resume and headshot (or photo)

Students may be asked to return in the afternoon for a call back audition and interview.

The two students selected are asked to perform one song at Overture's Take The Stage fundraising dinner typically scheduled in June each year.

Tentative Audition Schedule:

9am - 10:30am - Auditon group 1

11am - 11:30am - Call Back for group 1 (if needed)

12:30pm - 2pm - Audition group 2

2:30pm - 3:00pm - Call Back for group 2 (if needed)

Once the audition is complete the reviewer panel will convene to choose the two representatives and two alternates.  The two representatives will be notified by phone by the Monday after the audition.  All others will be notified by email.

The two students selected to represent the Tommy Awards in NYC at the NHSMTA, are required to prepare four (4) songs:

The two (2) most prominent songs from Participant's winning performance

One (1) musical theater ballad and one (1) musical theater up tempo piece.
