With ABBA Mania in town for a fabulously sold-out performance, we decided two hours of 70s was not nearly enough. So we brought local disco legends VO5 to the lobby at 5, invited St. Vinnie’s to bring a few racks of retro threads out, and opened the “Changing the World Through Art: Willy Street in the 70s” exhibit in the Playhouse Gallery, all for free.
Well over 1,000 people got their funk on in what VO5 called “the greatest 5:30 pm dance party of all time.” We got a few shots from the early part of the evening before your intrepid photographer put the camera away so he could shake his groove thang.
Just as the VO5 show was getting underway, Mark Thomas--who created ABBA Mania and performs as Bjorn--spent some time on Live at 5 with Andy Choi (left) and Susan Siman.
VO5 has more than 5 people in it.
We think that's a wig. Dude still lays down a mean bass line.
Catering a Fresco's bartenders were in the spirit.
What's cooler, the hat or the pants?
I think they have Wednesday Night Fever.
Many thanks to everybody who came out. Anybody else who got some photos, link to them in the comments or send them along to rchappell@overturecenter.com.
