Capitol Steps Return to Overture Hall With a New Administration's Worth of Material
(Madison, Wis.) Fresh off one of the most important elections in a generation--and by "important" we mean "rich for satire"--the Capitol Steps bring a bevy of fresh political funditry to Overture Hall at Overture Center for the Arts, 201 State Street, Madison, on Saturday, October 10 at 8 pm.
Global economic crises may be a downer, but they sure make good fodder for satire—along with international dust-ups, foot-in-mouth moments and corrupt governors. The Capitol Steps provide welcome respite from the 24/7 cable news—with its swooshing graphics, impending doom soundtrack and overblown nontroversies—with bipartisan lampoonery that gives equal time to dictators (“How Do You Solve a Problem Like Korea?”), bailed out banks (“Monster Cash”) and much-beloved new presidents (“Obamamia”).
Born at a Senate staff Christmas party in 1981, the Capitol Steps have come up from the trenches. These former legislative staffers and friends have hoisted five presidents and countless public officials on their catchy-tune pitard. Sure, there's plenty of satire on The Daily Show and all over the blogs, but as The Washington Post puts it, “You haven’t seen the real thing until you have been to the Capitol Steps.”
Tickets for Capitol Steps are available for $15, $20, $30 and $36 at the Overture Center ticket office, by phone at 608.258.4141 or online at overturecenter.com.
