Help Restore the Grand Barton Organ, a Thrilling Reminder of the Sounds of the Golden Past

What cost $20,000 in 1928 during the construction of the Capitol Theater, today is priceless.

The Grand Barton Organ, built in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, is the crown jewel of the Capitol Theater. Very few theater organs remain today, and those that do have been altered tonally or have been removed from their original home. We need your support to help us maintain this beautiful instrument for another 85+ years!

Although small refurbishing projects took place in 1995 and again in 2003 for the grand re-opening of the Capitol Theater, the Grand Barton’s ornate wood, lacquer, leather, wiring, metal and tin finishes are fragile and in need of a large restoration to keep it in working condition.  A donation above and beyond your membership dues will not only go to maintain the low ticket prices for our community but also help support the $250,000 Grand Barton restoration project.  Please consider adding an additional donation to your club membership and receive special recognition in each Duck Soup Cinema Playbill for your generous support of the Grand Barton as well as our sincere thanks.

A gift of any size will help guarantee the Grand Barton will be singing loud and clear for future generations of theater organ and silent film enthusiasts.

We thank you for being a part of Duck Soup Cinema and look forward to your renewed partnership in keeping this program alive for generations to come!

A gift of $1,000 will help maintain the original paint color, a gift of $500 will replace a metal pipe, a gift from $100 to $1,000 will replace one bell or whistle including the bass drum, snare, church bells, or ship whistle.  A gift of any size will help guarantee the Grand Barton will be singing loud and clear for future generations of theater organ enthusiasts.

If you are interested in hearing more about the organ’s restoration, and supporting this project please contact Carolyn Hahn, Development Manager, at 608.258.4142 or [email protected].
