Overture to Light the Lights

Nov. 18 Overture After Work Performance Will Feature Madison Jazz Orchestra

Overture Center for the Arts will once again light its holiday lights at the November Overture After Work performance, featuring Madison Jazz Orchestra, from 5pm – 7pm on Wednesday, November 18, in Overture Hall Lobby at Overture Center for the Arts, 201 State Street, Madison.

The Madison Jazz Orchestra was founded on the idea of the New York rehearsal band.  Players would come, sit in and play if they didn’t have a gig that night or came right from the studio. MJO  is also a repertoire band playing a selection of works from the likes of Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman and many more.
Another exciting addition for the show will be during a break in the evening performance, Overture Center will flip a switch and light spectacular holiday lights---cascading walls of lights, snowflakes and colors to shine throughout the building.  All the lights in Overture’s holiday displays will be environmentally friendly LED lights. These lights are designed for extra long life and extreme energy savings, and they use less than 20 percent of the energy a standard Christmas light does.

Each month Overture After Work shines a spotlight on a local nonprofit organization. The featured organization for November is Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center, which serve children who have been impacted by domestic violence in their lives both as witnesses and as victims. Now in it’s 10th year, Safe Harbor served 159 children in 2008 and planning to serve over 200 children in 2009. Visit the information table in the Lobby during Overture Ater Work, or log on to www.safeharbor-dc.org to learn more.

Overture After Work offers free music by local talents every month through April 2010. Food menu and drink specials provided by Catering A Fresco will be available for purchase. For more information call 608.258.4157, or visit overturecenter.com and go to Community Programs.
