Now in their twentieth season, the Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society continues to bring chamber music to enthusiastic audiences in Madison and south-central Wisconsin. Since 1992 flutist Stephanie Jutt and pianist Jeffrey Sykes have been inviting other world-class musicians to join them in a three-week summer festival that puts the element of "play" back into chamber music, showing that chamber music concerts, often serious to the point of stuffiness, can be both serious and fun at the same time.
Their artistic goal is to break down traditional barriers between audience and performers without compromising artistic standards of the highest order. The programming is eclectic, ranging from the greatest masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire to indigenous African music to the newest music hot off the press. Their performances are visual as well as aural feasts: art installations are commissioned each season to create a more inviting and exciting atmosphere than the traditional concert stage. BDDS is currently performing its chamber music festival June 10 - 26 in Madison, Stoughton, and Spring Green.
This exhibition features photographs by Dick Ainsworth. Ainsworth's goal for this project has been in visually capturing the process of creativity itself -- a process that begins with the first rehearsal and continues up to and through the opening performance. He has been intimately involved in the rehearsals, often shooting dozens or even hundreds of shots while the musicians meticulously crafted the nuances that would make each particular piece of music a unique and moving experience.
