Inferior Mirages and Incidental Detours: B.A. Harrington & Chele Isaac

Tue, Jan 10 - Sun, Feb 26
James Watrous Gallery |
Free

Opening reception: Friday, January 13, 5:30-7:30 p.m. With a talk by the artists beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Harrington and Isaac's multi-media installation work combines video projections, sculpture and sound to explore themes of dislocation, migration, and the way nostalgia distorts and narrows the idea of "American-ness." Following historic migration routes like the Oregon Trail, the Santa Fe Trail, and Highway 66, Harrington and Isaac took a strategically planned road trip from Madison to San Diego, where they spent a 4-month artists' residency at San Diego State distilling their experience into video and sculpture. This exhibition continues their provocative investigation of the myth of the American West.

Gallery hours: Tu-Th 11-5, Fri-Sat 11-9, Sun 1-5. Closed Mondays. For more information, call 265-2500 or visit the Wisconsin Academy on the web at www.wisconsinacademy.org/galleries.
