This exhibition of large-scale paintings explores liminal places—the boundaries between the seen and unseen—as well as the ways these spaces are inhabited by figures and forms. In Esdaile’s works, figures blend in and become part of their surroundings, while in Miller’s landscapes, repeated shapes take on a figurative presence upon closer inspection. Trent Miller received his MFA in Painting from Boston University in 2003 and currently teaches Painting at UW-Madison. Until moving to Madison three years ago, Esdaile spent most of his life in Norway, where he was a professional artist and teacher. Both artists have shown in numerous solo exhibitions, and Esdail’s is held by many major museum collections throughout Norway. This is there first exhibition together and Esdaile’s first exhibition in Madison.
